1. THE TASKS
Due to paragraph 16e of the chemical law the states are to build up poison information centers. We are the official information center of Rhineland-Palatinate and Hessia. We give advice in case of acute and chronical poisoning 24 hours each day during the entire year. An intensiv care and unit lab belong to our extended facilities. In 1998 more than 20,000 consultations had been done by our team. For more details on that topic read our annual report!

We advise members of welfare professions, laymen, and institutions that are involved into current toxicological problems (i.e. police, fire police etc.). In general phoning us is the most comfortable way of contacting us but you are also welcome to ask for advice by Internet, mail or e-mail. On the one hand our service includes general information about chemicals, plant-protective agents, cosmetics, plants, mushrooms, drugs etc. On the other hand we also tell you what to do in order to prevent or treat any kind of poisonings.

Every single deliberation is registered on a questionnaire, additionally we send another questionnaire to each caller to gain more information about the further process. Receiving those questionnaires again, they are analyzed by A.D.A.M., which is a documetation system developed for this very purpose.

2. THE TEAM
Prof. L.S. Weilemann, professor for clinical toxicology and internal medicine, is the head of our team.

Doctors, chemists and biologists are responsible for giving advice, investigation, and documentation. Carrying out scientific studies they develop therapy concepts, which are provided for laymen and specialists by publications, collaboration of committees, and direct further education.

3. OUR GOALS
Increasing the collection of human-toxicological data won by poisoning cases (-> documentation of the questionnaires, evaluation of epicrises). Getting more experience for improving therapy in poisoning cases by evaluation of poisoning cases, studying literature, and exchange of experience with German and international institutions which are employed on the field of toxicology.

Acquisition of documents for prevention, support for planning and executing of measures to prevent chemistry accidents. Furthermore we assist in acquiring national reports being addressed to the Commission of the European Union, we also assists in acquiring fundamentals for official measures.

Education and further education for the enlightenment of poisoning cases.

What we offer you:
