First Aid Measures...

How to behave in case of poisoning:

Keep calm! Never act rashly!
Either call the poison information center, your doctor or the ambulance and let them know about:

  • What?

  • Wo is poisoned (age and weight)?

  • How did it happen?

  • When did it happen?

  • How much?

  • Any striking indications?

  • Especially conspicuousness and respiration!

The more information you give the more detailed and efficent will be the instructions what to do!

First aid measures

Poisoning by mouth:

Depending on the quantity that has been taken and on consultation with a poison information center you may follow the instructions listed below:

  • Thin the poison by drinking a lot of water, juice or tea!

  • Combat foaming substances e.g. by taking once a tea-spoon of Sab Simplex or "Lefax flüssig"!

  • Absorb the toxic substance by carbon. Vomitting or stomach rinsing only under medical supervision. Never produce vomitting in case of poisoning by detergents, acids, caustic solutions or hair shampoos. Also avoid vomitting with people loosing consciousness (danger of aspiration and complications on lungs possible!).

  • Always remember: Keep calm! Never act rashly, especially never hand milk without consultation and never produce vomitting!!!

The medicine listed below should be available in your house:

Poisoning by skin:

Totally undress the poisoned person, wash all afflicted with plenty of water and soap immediately! Wear gloves if available! Danger of life in case of plant-protective agents i.e. E605

Poisoning by lung:

Danger of self-poisoning! Supply patient with fresh air! Open windows, doors and call for medical treatment immediately! If necessary use mouth-to-mouth respiration until emergency doctor arrives. Due to the danger to yourself never breathe in front of the poisoned person!

Cauterization of the eyes
After having washed out by running water for 10-15 minutes, go for an oculist.

Stop of breathing

Respiration:
Open mouth and throat room in order to prevent foreign substances from clogging the respiratory ducts. Mouth-to-mouth or mouth-to-nose respiration. Due to the danger to yourself never breathe in front of the poisoned person!

Cardiac arrest

Stop of breathing:
Having used cardiac massage 15 times, use twice mouth-to-mouth respiration .
If the reanimation is done by 2 persons, do once mouth-to-mouth respiration after every 5th cardiac massage.

Basics of the cardiac massage:

Use supine position on a compact subsoil (i.e. floor). Cross your balls of the thumb and press down the lower third of the breastbone towards the vertebral column rhythmically (around 80 times per minute with kids and adults and 100-120 with small children! For cardiac massage with small children cross forefinger and middle finger.

Transportation

Proper transportation before fast transportation!!! In case of vomitting or unconsciousness rest with side or abdomen downside, turn the head aside, take the tongue to the front part of the mouth and keep the respiratory ducts clear. Never do transportation without company (important if cardiac massage or respiration necessary). Put remainder of poison (original box etc.) into a plastic bag and pass it to hospital.

Phone codes of emergency calls: 19222 or fire police 112
